I've been looking forward to April 24 for a few months now. My buddy, Lauren, and I have been crafting every free second to get ready for the 2010 cityfest! We made tutus, headbands, onesies, skirts, and some baby blankets. Unfortuately it rained that day so not many people ended up going to Cityfest but we made some really good contacts. I really enjoyed the experience and I'm excited to do it next year.

Busy Weekend

Friday: After work on friday, Jake and I packed up our things and headed to Chewacla State Park for our branch camp out. This is one of my favorite branch activities. We played volleyball, had delicious "Hirt dogs", roasted marshmallows, and had a fun talent show. This was our last activity as a student branch. They decided to make it a singles branch and move everyone else into the Opelika ward. I'm going to miss how close our small branch was. We had lots of fun times together. ... Setting up the tent... ... Brooke and me... ... Yummy Hirt dogs...

Saturday: We had some good breakfast, packed up our things, and headed home. It was Auburn's A-Day Spring football game so we went home got a shower and headed out for the festivities. After the game we hurried home, changed into our swimming gear and headed the the YSA bbq. They had water balloon volleyball, a huge slip-n-slide, and lots of food. ... My hunny cooking breakfast...... so many Auburn fans...... My Hunny and me!...... The boys......me......slip-n-slide...

Decisions

Weekend with Family

This past week my sister, her husband and there new baby, danny, came to visit us! I was so excited i couldn't think about anything else for days! While they were here we went to an Auburn basketball game (it was the last one in the old auburn arena.)We went cannoeing on marty's lake. I was so glad the weather was nice while they were here, it was a little bit windy but at least the sun was out.We hung around the house, took naps, had a bath and just spent some time together And of course we had lots of southern food! We tried oysters, catfish, crawfish, jalapeno cornbread and fried pickles!

I'm happy to annouce that jake and i have made it through the mission! Two years! It seems like just yesterday we were up in alaska dating. Yup, that's right! it's snowing here in auburn alabama! It started about 10 o'clock this morning and hasn't stopped. We are at about three inches... which i know isn't a lot but it makes me feel like i'm at home. I also got the day off because no one here wants to get out in the snow. Grocery stores were jammed pack yesterday with people worried that they were going to get snowed in... man i miss people that know how to drive in snow.

I know it's been a while since my last post but let me catch everyone up. What has been taking up most of our time is... we've been house hunting! yeah, we've decided to stay here in the south for at least three more years so jake can get his PhD. I never thought i would be living here but i know this is where we are suppose to be!

Another great thing that happened is jake just presented his thesis proposal and his committee thought it was great. One member on the committee told jake that his literature review was the best one he has read since he's been at auburn! That's my hunny! He is so talented and i'm the luckiest girl to have him for a husband!

My hunny wanted to make a big deal of my twenty first birthday so starting Friday he had all kinds of surprises for me. My first surprise was when I got home from work on Friday my mother in-law, Sandy, was waiting for me. She drove down from Ohio for my birthday! We spent all weekend having fun together. Shopping, football, movies, parties, and games! It was so nice having her here. My next suprise was huge birthday luau! Jake did such a good job planning, he had all my favorite foods, my closest friends and cake! Haha I love him so much! And that's not all! All through my birthday week he left little surprises and presents for me to find.

For some reason in Auburn they trick or treat on Thursday night instead of Friday so on Friday we went to the YSA's halloween party. The Beeslt Bash! We dressed up as punk rockers! Tattoo ,heavy eyeliner, and colored contacts. We love being YSA advisors.

I've gotten a little behind on my new family growth. First of all my oldest brother Eric and his wife had their third baby in July. A little boy they named kempton.

Then my brother Bryan and his wife had their second boy a few weeks ago and named him Zacari. And I'm hanging out here in Virginia for my sister to have her first baby. I love my family so much and I'm so lucky to have two new nephews and one on the way!

Last weekend Jake and I, along with Sandy and Duane took a short trip down to Louisiana to watch the BYU/Tulane game. We meet up with Thor and Kim (our good friends from Auburn), Uncle Micheal, Uncle Stevie, and Katie, and Pops. We had a weekend of good food, good football and good fun! Byu beat Tulane 54 to 3! We had so much fun riding the trolley all over New Orleans and ate at some fantastic restaurants like Cafe Du Munde, Mother's Cafe, and the Cheesecake Bistro. We wish the trip could have been longer

Lake Time!

Jake and I went to Lake Martin for our friend Thor's 30th surprise birthday party on Saturday, June 20. We all spent the day playing on all of the fun water toys they have. We bounced on their floating trampoline that has a slide coming off of it, and then launched each other on a mini version of "the blob". We went for boat rides, and saw some beautiful lake homes. The best part of the day was riding on their three wave runner jet skis! Soooo fun!

Last weekend Jake and I attended a Halloween costume party......in May! I know, weird, Halloween in May??? Here's the story: One of the guys in the ward is dating a girl who loves Halloween, and she has been out of town for the last two. So, he threw her a surprise Halloween party, complete with costumes, candy, trick or treating (with the kids in the ward) and scary movies! What a fun night! We love our new calling at church as the young single adult advisers, and we've already had so much fun with them.

The Big Apple! New York City!

After visiting Elisa's sister, Jessica, and her husband, Bryan, in Washington DC, the four of us took the train up to New York City. While there we took in all the sights and sounds of the Big Apple. We rode around the city on a double-decker tour bus, visited Times Square, took a walk through Central Park, and saw the Empire State Building and Ground Zero. Plus we visited China Town and Little Italy, and got some great New York pizza at Bella Napoli's. We also ate at the world famous Carnegie Deli - one pastrami sandwich fed all four of us! Then we got some New York style cheesecake that was out-of-this-world good. One of our favorite places to visit was the FAO Schwartz toy store, where we played on the giant piano just like the movie BIG. Next, we went to the Hershey's and M&M's stores in Times Square. Probably the highlight of the trip was seeing Phantom of the Opera on Broadway - unbelievable!

Nation's Capital

During Jake's recent break between semesters we went up to visit my sister Jessica, and her husband in Washington D.C. While we were there we took in all of the sites including the monuments, memorials, museums, and the White House. We also had a wonderful trip to the D.C. LDS Temple, and visited great Great Falls national park. It was really nice to visit my sister and I can't believe the next time I see her she will have a little baby!

Beach Trip

We got to head down to the beautiful beaches of South Alabama and Florida. Our friends, the Brownings, as well as their Vietnamese neighbors Nam, Nhung, and Emily went with us on the trip. We all stayed together in a condo on the beach and had lots of fun adventures! While touring the coast we went crab hunting at midnight, visited the Naval Aviation Museum, took a dolphin tour in the Gulf, spent hours on the white sandy beach, and battled some awesome waves. We even saw some sting rays jumping up out of the water! It is so nice living so close to the beach!

Ward Campout

Jake and I had a blast at the ward campout. Jake and Sam performed a "Flight of the Concords Song" at the talent show around the campfire. We all played football and soccer and just hung out with friends. We all stayed up late chatting around the fire and eating s'mores. We loved playing with all the little kids in the ward. We had so much fun that night that we forgot to take pictures ourselves (so we put pictures of some of the kids that we got from their parents here on the blog). In the morning, several of us went for a "polar bear dip" in the lake. I proved my toughness by being the only girl that went on the morning dip! Woo woo!

Auburn City Fest

Elisa and I volunteered at the local spring party for the entire city - the Auburn City Fest. We supervised kids as they played on giant inflatables, watched the lumberjack competition, and helped kids on the pony ride. City Fest is a great tradition in Auburn that is completely free to the community and is a great family activity. Elisa absolutely loved all of the local crafts and art, and I definitely thought the ax throwing contest was pretty cool!

Take Me Out to the Ballgame...

Saturday night Elisa and I went to the Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals game in Atlanta. A group of people from our branch in Auburn got tickets through the church. The game was lots of fun and the hometown Braves won 5-3. Elisa especially got excited about singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch. Also, they had awesome fireworks after the game!

Saturday morning we went to a giant community Easter egg hunt with the Browning family. We taught the girls all the best strategies to dominate the other kids. The Easter bunny was even there to kick things off! The girls made us proud! They found tons of eggs and even shared with the kids who got there late and missed the hunt.

Wicked

On Tuesday night we went and saw the Broadway play Wicked! Jake's parents were so sweet and bought us tickets for his birthday. We absolutely loved it and have been singing the songs to it ever since we walked out of the theater. The voices and music and costumes and live orchestra and everything was just so cool! What a fun night! We can't wait till we get to see our next Broadway play.

Freckles Day!

As some of you know, since we first started dating, Jake has called me "freckles" (yes, he got it from Sawyer). Well, Jake has made it a tradition that every few months he declares it a "Freckles Day". He surprises me by placing a piece of paper with each one of the eight letters in FRECKLES on top of eight pillows. Under each pillow is a small present or surprise!!! So I get to pick one letter every few minutes and see what surprise is underneath! It's usually just fun little things like a package of my favorite candy, a dvd, or a gift card. Jake is so sweet! I love all the little things he does for me!

Jake the BBQ Judge!

Jake had the best time yesterday. One of his good friends signed him up to be a judge at a bbq contest. Thinking he would get to sample a little of the local food, Jake agreed. Little did he know he would be judging a national BBQ contest with hundreds of contestants from Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana! Jake judged BBQ chicken and pork. The contestants each brought their BBQ forward and Jake, along with the other judges, scored the meat on appearance, tenderness, and taste. Jake said he had never tasted better BBQ than he had on Saturday. He said he really enjoyed being "wined and dined" by the country boys, and might actually pay dues and take a class to become a nationally certified BBQ judge!

Our 3-D Adventure!

On Friday night we took Megan and Kaitlin with us to the movies to see Monsters vs. Aliens in 3-D! Those two girls (ages 7 and 5) are two of our favorite people, and we love hanging out with them. We figured we would give their parents a night without the kiddies. It was so much fun going to the movies with them. It was also my first 3-D movie ever!

Tuesday, March 24 was my birthday and Elisa made it one of the best ones ever! She surprised me all day long! When I got to school at 8am, she had decorated my work desk and covered it with cards, presents, and pictures of the two of us. Then, during my class at noon, she delivered cupcakes to my classmates and me.But the best part of the day was that evening as Elisa threw a surprise BBQ/bonfire for me! She told me we were just going to go out for dinner together, but then we showed up at our friends' house where everyone was waiting. We had a great time eating Sam's famous "Hirt Dogs" fresh of the grill. (If you've ever had J-dogs at BYU, these are just like those....delicious!) We all had a lot of fun just hanging out after dinner, opening presents, and roasting mallows and starbursts over the fire.Just in case anyone didn't know, I really did marry the #1 girl. Elisa constantly strives to make those around her happy. She is the most giving and unselfish person I have ever known. She makes me truly happy and I'm still trying to figure out what she sees in a dorky guy like me! I love her.

Fun in the Sun

After we got back from Ohio, Elisa had to return to work, but I was still on spring break. Some buddies of mine from church were heading down to the beach at Pensacola, Florida on Wednesday. With permission from the wife, I joined the boys on the day trip to the coast. The beach was beautiful with white sand and perfect waves. Since Pensacola is only three and a half hours from our house, Elisa and I decided that we will have to go again one of these Saturdays. Spending spring break lying on the beach in Florida was pretty sweet. The only other thing I could have wanted was that hott wife of mine to be soaking up the sun beside me.

Spring Break 09

For Spring Break we headed up to Ohio to spend the weekend with Jake's parents on the farm. While we were there Jake played in his high school alumni basketball tournament and was the leading scorer on the team! (That's my baby!) We also went to Columbus on Sunday and listened to Elder Russel M. Nelson speak to the congregation in Central Ohio. It was a very uplifting meeting as Elder Nelson taught the Saints that everything we need to know we learn while we are in primary. It was a great review of basic gospel principles that will help us return to our Father in Heaven. He also had the children 12 and under stand and sing songs from the congregation including "I am a Child of God", "I Hope They Call me on a Mission", and "Follow the Prophet".
We always have fun with Duane and Sandy. They take such good care of us while we are there. We had a great steak dinner one night and just had fun playing board games and doing farm chores with them. Also, we went to our nephew Georgie's birthday party and watched him play in his soccer game. It was so nice to see our family. Alabama is fun, but we miss our family and close friends a lot. It was really nice to spend time with them.

Snow in Auburn!

Last Sunday (March 1, our anniversary!) we woke up to quite a surprise!!! Auburn got 3 inches of snow - believe me, that's a lot of snow for Alabama! It was the most snow Auburn has had in years. People here don't really know what to do when it snows, everyone just kind of goes crazy! School was closed the next day and businesses and churches all over town had to close for the day. But of course we are still in Alabama and the snow did not last long. Today, March 6, only 5 days later it was nearly 80 degrees! Ha! Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Best Year of My Life!

Ice Skating

Another fun part of our weekend away was going ice skating at the Ice Palace in Montgomery. We h ad a lot of fun and we found out that I am definitely a better ice skater than Jake! The rink was in the middle of the Montgomery mall, so after skating we went shopping....well, I shopped while Jake called Duane every 5 minutes for updates on the BYU/Utah basketball game (BYU won 63-50, so you all know Jake was happy!)

Things Get Wild

A lot of wild things happened this weekend while on our anniversary getaway in Montgomery. First of all, there were tornado warnings all over the state and a crazy amount of rain poured down on Montgomery and the surrounding area during our first evening there. The wind, rain, lightning, and tornado sirens made for a wild and crazy night!

Not only was the weather wild, but also our first activity on Saturday took us on an exotic adventure! We went to the Montgomery Zoo (the weather was much nicer) and saw everything from White Bengal tigers to flamingos to 12 foot pythons! We felt like little kids again as we ran from one animal exhibit to another, hoping to catch a glimpse of the wild animals doing something crazy! I practically had to pull Jake away from the creepy reptile house (he would have stayed there all day long looking at the snakes and lizards). My favorite animals were the monkeys and giraffes, while Jake loved the cougars and tigers.

Embassy Suites, Oh So Sweet!

Jake planned a getaway weekend to Alabama's capital city, Montgomery, for our one year anniversary! We stayed in one of the nicest hotels downtown, a deluxe Embassy Suites. The room was amazing, the night was very romantic, and the breakfast was out of this world!

Auburn vs. Ole Miss

On Feb. 25 our friend, Thor, got us tickets to the Auburn/Ole Miss basketball game. It was a blast and we had great seats. It was our first Auburn sports event together! Auburn won 77-64. We learned the Auburn fight song, popular cheers, and chants to rattle the other team. Our favorite cheer was this:

National Pancake Day

Today, February 24, along with the rest of America, we celebrated National Pancake Day! We headed over to IHOP for our three free pancakes each. As many of you know, Jake absolutely loves pancakes, and we plan on making the trip to IHOP an annual tradition from now on!

My Valentine!

Jake and I had such a fun Valentine's Day! He woke me up by calling me on my cell phone from the living room. He told me to wake up and look in the top dresser drawer. There I found a rose and a note describing our very first date. There was also a note that told me to look in our closet on the floor. I continued to find notes and roses all over the bedroom and bathroom. It was so cute.

The final note told me to blindfold myself and come into the living room for the "final rose ceremony". Jake then told me and the four other imaginary girls (Kelly Kapowski, Michelle Obama, Britney Spears, and Jessica Alba) that he would only be giving out one rose. That rose would be given to the girl he wanted to be his Valentine. He told me to take off my blindfold and I saw that the room was full of candles and Jake was weraing a suit and tie. He got down on one knee and presented the rose to me and asked me to be his Valentine.

Jake had also created a dance floor out of blankets in our living room floor and we danced to our song "Everything" by Michael Buble, and to other songs from our wedding day.

Then we went to Cracker Barrel for a real "Valentine's country breakfast." We bought some fun little gifts and candy and then ate a hearty Southern breakfast.

We came home and had a Valentine's "Pajama Jam" and watched movies and got out our sleeping bags and just lounged for the afternoon. We took little cat naps and just snuggled. It was really nice.

In the evening, Jake had one more surprise for me and that was a table full of chocolates and other treats. And right in the middle of the treats I found bubble bath soap! I love bubble baths, how fun!

It was the best Valentine's day ever! My husband takes such good care of me. He always has a surprise up his sleeve! He makes me so happy!

Craft Time

She introduced me to scrap booking, taught me how to use photo shop, and most recently how to quilt. She helped me start this Americana quilt for someone special for Christmas.

So... Jake and I were just exploring Auburn one day and found a rec center a few blocks away from our house. We decided to go inside and check it out. Turns out that it is absolutely free to get in, and all you have to do is show a photo id. Now we run to the gym, play some racquetball, and then lift weights.

My Awesone Job!

Here in Alabama I've had to put my school on hold. I was planning on going into Dental Hygiene so I tried to get a job as a dental assistant. Most dental offices had a full staff so I applied at an Oral Surgeon's office. I got the job! I've been working there for about three months now and it's been such a blessing. The Doctor I work for, Dr. Grady, really cares about his employees and takes good care of us. For example, I had only been working for about three weeks and he had taken us out for lunch at red lobster, to the movies, to a tail gate party where we got to meet the Auburn football team and the Auburn cheerleaders, and a he gave me three weeks off of work so that I could fly to Utah for Christmas. Right now at work I have mostly been assisting in surgeries, but I have also learned the receptions desk and am able to cover if the receptionist is ever sick. Next he wants me to learn how to bill people, schedule the surgeries and work with the different insurance companies.

Sweet Home Alabama

Before we made it to our new apartment in Alabama, we got a call telling us that they had a few extra things that they would be willingly to put in our apartment for free. We got a kitchen table, two couches, and two end tables! Me and Jake were so excited but when we arrived and saw what our apartment looked liked we were a little upset. (The internet made the rooms look a lot better than what they really are.) These pictures are of our living room and dining room before we decorated.

Salmon Bake

This summer, while I was living in Alaska, I not only worked at grandma's feather bed (a bed and breakfast) but I also work at a clothing store called Alaska Apparel. If we were able to hit our monthly goals we were rewarded with different excursions like zip lining and float plane rides. This was the last big thing that I got to do in Alaska. All the girls I worked with got to go on a float plane ride to Taku lodge and eat some fresh off the fire salmon, go on a short hike and even have a bear come into our camp site.

Kayaking Adventures!

Me and Jake haven't been able to go on very many adventures this year, Since I'm taking online classes and working two jobs but the few we have been on have been GrEaT! One of my favorite adventure was when we went sea kayaking. It was a nice sunny day and we went out with a few of our friends. We decided to kayak out to an island. While we were out in the ocean we saw a few sea lions playing around and we saw some whales out in the distance. A few minutes later we heard a weird sound right behind us. It was a SEA LION! only two feet away from out kayak. Our little friend followed us around for most of the day. About fifteen minutes later we heard another weird sound... It was a whale! it popped up right in front of us. We were only about 20 feet away and had to stop our kayaks so we didn't hit it. This definitely was the scariest most exciting moment ever!

When we got to Alaska they didn't have our apartment ready for us yet. So, we got to stay in the hotel for the first few weeks. It was nice to have someone make the bed for us, have cable T.V, and being able to walk to work. Now we are staying in a really cute attic apartment. It's really nice but now we don't have T.V, we have to clean up after ourselves, and its about a ten minute drive to work. (Which means ten minutes less I get to sleep!)

Fun in Seattle

On our way up to Alaska me and Jake stopped in Seattle and spent a few days with his uncles on Bainbridge Island. We did so many fun things, we visited Paulsbo (which is a little Norwegian town), we went shopping, and spent a lot of time playing phase ten. We had a blast after our visit we took the ferry back to Seattle where we had a limo waiting to take us to the airport!
